Grass seed can be planted within a few days of applying an herbicide to the lawn containing glyphosate. Apply the herbicide following the label directions and allow the weeds to die. Re-apply as needed to completely remove the crabgrass. Follow the herbicide with a complete raking of the lawn, removing the dead grass and weeds. There is no need to wait after the weeds have been killed and removed to begin the seeding process. Apply a layer of clean topsoil and plant the new grass seed according to the package directions. Apply a starter fertilizer to the soil at the time of planting.
