Are Mesquite Shavings Bad for Tomato Plants?

Mesquite shavings are not bad for tomato plants. A thin layer of shavings as a mulch at the base of tomato plants holds in moisture and reduces weeds. Till the shavings into the ground at the end of tomato season to provide additional soil nutrients for next year's crop.
