Is Sandy Soil Good for Dahlias?

Sandy soil should be amended with organic compost to improve its fertility and texture before planting dahlias. Work the soil with amendments to a depth of 8 to 10 inches. North Carolina State University extension recommends a soil pH of 6.0 to 6.5, and applying 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 fertilizer before planting dahlias.
