Do You Plant Balled Evergreens With the Wire Basket Attached?
One method of preparing evergreens for sale and planting is to dig the tree or shrub so that a large ball of soil is left around the roots. The ball is then wrapped in burlap and secured. If a wire basket was used, the University of Minnesota Extension advises to remove as much wire as possible, but do not let the soil ball fall apart.
