Drought-tolerant buffalograss (Buchloe dactyloides) grows well with no water other than rainfall across most of Texas, including East Texas' Red River, Marion, Walker, Madison, Leon, Grimes and Anderson Counties. It suffers, however, in the acidic, sandy soils prevalent through most other East Texas counties.
