Plant Dichelostemma ida-maia bulbs, also known as a firecracker or lipstick flower, 3/4 inch deep in the sun or partial shade. Keep the plants moist while they are blooming, but allow them to dry out during the summer dormancy period. The red tubular flowers bloom in late spring to early summer.
