Lesco, a division of John Deere Landscapes, sells a variety of seeds, including turfgrass seeds. The company has been in business for more than 40 years and provides quality seeds to homeowners and lawn care professionals.
Creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) is a carpet-like grass with a soft, dense texture. It requires frequent watering and fertilizing and is prone to disease. Some varieties with better disease resistance produced by Lesco are penncross, penneagle, pennlinks and seaside. Creeping bentgrass performs best in cool climates.
Lesco offers a number of varieties of fine fescue, which has a fine texture and grows best in cool climates. Lacrosse chewings fescue (Festuca rubra commutata) spreads aggressively; ridu hard fescue (F. ovina var. duriuscula) is a clump-forming grass. Other varieties of fine fescue are blue, Brittany and shademark.
Tall fescue (Festuca arundiacea) is another cool-climate grass. It grows in dense clumps and has a coarse texture. Some varieties of tall fescue available from Lesco are Biltmore, bravo, fawn, hunter, padre and Stetson.
Bluegrass (Poa sp.) is a cold-hardy grass that needs frequent watering and fertilizing. It is blue-green and has a fine-to-medium texture. Lesco offers several varieties of bluegrass, including blue velvet, excursion, longhorn, midnight and shamrock.
Lesco produces annual ryegrass, as well as two varieties that grow like annual ryegrass but look more like perennial ryegrass: harbour intermediate and midway intermediate. Annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) is a bunching grass with a medium-to-coarse texture. It requires frequent watering and is not tolerant of drought, heat or cold.
Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is deep green and finer than annual ryegrass. It is not tolerant of cold, heat or drought, and it needs frequent watering. Some varieties of Perennial Ryegrass available from Lesco are allsport, Greenville, Manhattan 4 and prosport.
