American beech (Fagus grandifolia) can live up to 400 years and exceed 160 feet in height. Common beech (Fagus sylvatica) typically reach 50 to 60 feet, and occasionally grow to 100 feet. European beeches, cultivars of common beech, stand from 15 to 80 feet high.
