Overview

Indoor plants growing in hanging baskets add dimension and visual interest to your space. One of the ways to make a hanging basket holder for an indoor plant is to create beaded strands that can capture the sunlight through the window and sparkle with a mixture of vibrant colors. Natural hemp cording, small chains and nylon ropes will also work to make a hanging basket holder, but none of these offer the colorful beauty of crystal beaded strands.

Step 1

Measure the desired length of the hanging basket holder from the bottom center of the indoor plant basket. Multiply this measurement by two. One beaded strand will fit beneath the basket and form two sides of the plant hanger.

Step 2

Cut two strands of 22-gauge craft wire 4 inches longer than the measurement obtained in Step 1. The extra inches are for wrapping and crimping the wire to make the hanging basket holder.

Step 3

Slide one crimp bead over one end of one wire strand. Fold 2 inches of the same end of the same wire over a large jump ring. Insert the end of the wire through the crimp bead. Press the crimp bead with crimping pliers. This will secure the end of the wire around the jump ring.

Step 4

Thread any size and color combination of crystal beads over the open end of the wire. Fill the length of the wire with crystal beads from the crimp bead to 2 inches from the open end. Crystal beads are available in a variety of colors and shapes to complement your interior décor.

Step 5

Slide a crimp bead over the open end of the wire behind the crystal beads. Fold the open end of the wire over the jump ring. Insert the open end of the wire through the last crimp bead added. Feed the open wire down through as many crystal beads as possible. Press the crimp bead with crimping pliers. The beaded wire strand hangs as a large loop from the jump ring.

Step 6

Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 to make another support loop for the hanging basket. The second loop should cross the first one at the base.

Step 7

Hang the jump ring holding the indoor plant hanger from a hook or a nail. Fit the basket inside the beaded hanger so that the crossed loops fit beneath the basket.
