Can You Plant a Shade Tree in the Spring?

Shade trees can be planted in the spring. According to the Virginia Cooperative Extension, container-grown trees may be transplanted any time of the year, except when the ground is frozen. Ball-and-burlap-bound trees should be planted in the fall or early spring when they are dormant.
