According to EdibleContainerGardening.com, sprouted garlic buds can indeed be planted. Sprouted bulbs need to be pressed 4 inches below the surface of the soil with their sprouted side up. Growing garlic is not for the impatient gardener, however. It takes approximately nine months for each sprouted bulb to develop into a new head of garlic.
