Leyland cypress, a dense, pyramidal evergreen, grows from cuttings. Potted cuttings are ready for in-ground planting in nine to 12 months. In-ground plants grow three to four feet per year. Growing a 12-foot tree from a cutting takes three years plus nine months and five years.
