Tropical and subtropical areas, and sandy shorelines in particular, are the most favorable areas for coconut palm trees. Coconut palms need the frost-free conditions of USDA zones 10 and 11. Coconut palm trees are believed to have originated in the South Pacific or the Malay Archipelago.
