A pumpkin is a fruit from the gourd (Cucurbitaceae) family of plants. Pumpkins fall into the fruit category because fruit grows from a flower and consists of at least a single ovary. Any edible part of a plant, other than the flower, signifies a vegetable. Pumpkins grow on vines and require 90 to 120 days to reach fruit maturity.
