Texas bluebonnets normally have a germination period of 15 to 75 days. However, germination can be speeded up by treating them with a process known as "scarification." This involves freezing them overnight and then pouring hot water over them the next morning to crack their outside coating or simply soaking them in lukewarm water overnight.
