Grown as fragrant garden or house plants, fragrant gardenias may be the Gardenia jasminoides species or the Gardenia thunbergia species. Jasminoides have single or double, funnel-shaped, ivory flowers that are 3 to 4 inches across. Thunbergia have white, tubular, star-shaped blooms.
