Lilac bushes do not need a mate to produce blossoms. The main things that lilac bushes need to create beautiful blooms is plenty of water and proper pruning. Each year, remove dying blossoms and prune the flower stems back to the leaves. Do not prune lilac stems in the winter, since it will remove next season’s blossoms.
