What Kind of Vegetable Is Zucchini?

Zucchini is a type of summer squash (Cucurbita pepo). It is in the same family as crookneck, patty pan, straightneck and other squashes grown during warm weather. Zucchini is usually shaped like a long, green cylinder, either with or without stripes.
