Do Banana Pepper Plants Have a Purple Stalk?

Banana peppers are greenish-yellow when harvested, turning red when ripe. The pepper grows 5 to 8 inches long, 1 1/2 inches wide, and has a slight curve at maturity. Banana peppers are picked from a woody greenish-brown stem. The stems are not purple.
