Autumn is the best time to fertilize the garden. Fertilize landscape plants once a year, especially with newly planted materials. Fertilize twice yearly for sandy soils or in areas of heavy rainfall. Incorporate compost fertilizer into soil before planting vegetables and as side dressing once a month as they grow.
