Capture the winter wonderland that's outside and bring it inside with a frosty centerpiece. Use the centerpiece for a New Year's Eve celebration or to brighten up the gray dreary days between Christmas and Valentine's Day. Use fresh flowers and the centerpiece will last longer. Save a few strands of your holiday lights for a winter wonderland centerpiece.
Cut the stems of the flowers and greenery to 6 inches long and put in a vase of ice water for at least 30 minutes. This hydrates them so they will last longer.
Pack the silver tray with floral foam so it's 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch below the top of the tray.
Edge the tray with greenery. Cut the stems to 2 inches long and the greenery to no more than 3 inches. Poke the stems into the floral foam around the perimeter creating a band that's about an inch wide.
Place the mirror on the middle of the tray toward the back so there are only about 3 inches between the edge of the mirror and the edge of the greenery. Surround the mirror with pearl stick pins. The pins add a glow and keep the mirror in place.
Push a crystal tipped stick pin in the center of each rose. Clip the rose stems to 2, 3 and 3-1/2 inches long. Place the roses in back of the mirror and to both sides by pushing their stems in the floral foam. Start with the shorter stems on the side and taller ones in the back. Use baby's breath to fill in any gaps between the roses so the foam doesn't show through.
Fill in the rest of the tray with carnations placed as close as possible so no foam shows through.
Pull up the pearl tipped stick pins around the mirror so they just peek through the tops of the flowers. You may have to gently push the flower petals aside to find the stick pins.
Spray the twigs with floral spray so they are completely coated and no natural pigment shows through. Let dry per label directions. When they are dry place the twigs in the roses as if they were bare trees covered with ice.
Place the twinkle lights around the bottom of the silver tray when you've put the centerpiece in its display location.
Follow the steps for the first centerpiece but use blue crystal stick pins instead of iridescent ones in the roses.
Add blue glitter to the carnations placed around the rim of the tray.
Use blue and white twinkle lights.
