Easy Apple Desserts

Apple pie is a traditional and popular American dessert that can require an entire afternoon of preparing and baking to complete. Not all apple desserts need to be labor intensive though. There are plenty of easy apple desserts that are flavorful, quick and don't require a long grocery list of ingredients.

Like Apple Pie

This quick, simple recipe creates an apple dessert that has an apple pie-like taste in a fraction of the time. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Then pour a can of packaged apple pie filling into an ungreased baking dish and cover with 1/2 cup of basic yellow cake mix. Sprinkle chopped nuts of your choice over the top, and drizzle about a stick of fully melted butter over the mixture. Bake for 30 minutes or until crisp and brown. Let the dessert cool for a few minutes before serving with chilled whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Throw in a few berries for additional flavoring, or drizzle with lemon juice.

Easy Apple Crisp

This simple apple crisp recipe will serve eight people with only a little effort. Peel and core five to eight fresh apples, and slice thinly. Place the apples in a greased baking dish, and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 3/4 cup oats (can be instant), 1/3 cup flour, 1/3 cup butter and as much ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg or other seasonings as you desire. Add 1/2 cup water and a few tablespoons of lemon. Mix everything together with the apples, and bake for approximately 45 minutes. Let the apple crisp cool and serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

Raw Apple Pie

This basic apple pie recipe is low carb, tasty and requires no baking. To make the crust, use a food processor to blend 1-1/2 cups sunflower seeds with 3/4 cup raisins and 1 tbsp. carob powder. Line an ungreased, 9-inch pan with the crust. Peel and core five or six apples and chop finely--you may wish to use a food processor. Mix the apples with 3/4 cup honey, 1 tbsp. cinnamon and the juice from half a lemon. Pour the mixture over the crust, and cover with a garnish with shredded coconut or slices of a different fruit. Let the dish chill in the refrigerator for about an hour before serving.
