Will Picking Pomegranate Flowers Hurt the Fruit?

Pomegranate flowers have a fleshy, red calyx in their centers where the fruit develops after the flowers are spent. Picking the flowers will not harm the plant, but every flower removed is also removing a fruit before it has time to develop from the flower’s center.
