Decorative fall crafts can add warmth to your home decor. You don’t have to be an experienced crafter to make easy fall decorations that you and your family can enjoy. Select materials from nature and the craft store to create designs that you can use to celebrate every fall season for years to come.
Fall Leaf Wreath
It’s easy to craft a fall leaf wreath using a foam wreath and silk leaf garland in shades of red, orange and gold. Glue one end of the garland to the back side of the wreath using a glue gun. Wrap the garland around the wreath frame, securing the leaves into position with hot glue as you go.
Fall Floral Wreath
Make a wreath filled with silk chrysanthemums and other silk fall flowers in a variety of colors. Cut the stems at the base of the blossoms and glue the flowers into place around a foam wreath frame. You may prefer to cover the wreath frame in ribbon, fabric or craft moss before adding the flowers. The background camouflages the wreath frame so that it will not be visible between the flowers. Hot glue works to attach the moss, fabric, ribbon and flowers.
Another decorative fall craft that’s easy to make is a gourd pumpkin or jack-o-lantern. Trim the long stem from the gourd shell and paint the round base orange. Draw thin black shadow lines to resemble a pumpkin or paint a jack-o-lantern face on one side. Gourds will not rot and deteriorate as real pumpkins will; you can use the gourd pumpkins year after year to decorate inside or outside your home for fall. Gourds are available from local farmers and online retailers.
Botanical Wall Art
Press colorful fall leaves between two panes of picture frame glass to create decorative wall art. The easiest way to obtain two panes of picture frame glass is to purchase two inexpensive frames that are the same size from the dollar store. Save the extra frame; it could be useful in another craft project. Seal the glass panes together around the perimeter with wide tape or jeweler’s glue. Trace the outlines of the leaves on the front pane using a metallic paint pen. Replace the glass back inside the frame and hang it on the wall.
Trace decorative fall leaves onto similar colored craft foam to make a leaf mobile to hang on your front porch or patio. Cut the leaf shapes from the foam and pierce them with a needle at the tops or the stems. Hang the leaves from a craft ring using fishing line to make an easy, colorful mobile.
