Easy-to-make candy apples are perfect for those occasions when you want a special treat but don't have a lot of time. You can easily whip up a batch of candy apples that will be remembered for their fancy appearance as well as their delicious flavor. Choose firm apples for the candying process, and use your imagination when preparing them for Halloween and other special occasions.
Combine the water and sugar in the saucepan and simmer over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.
Increase the heat to medium low and cook without stirring until the mixture turns an amber color.
Remove the pan from the stove and slowly stir in the heavy cream to keep the mixture from popping or splattering.
Cover the Styrofoam with the wax paper. This will catch the drippings from the apples when the Styrofoam is used as a stand for the apples to cool after dipping.
Push a Popsicle stick into the bottom of each apple. Dip the top half of the apple into the warm caramel. Push each stick into the Styrofoam square so that the coated apple stands upright and the caramel runs down the sides.
Melt the white chocolate in a double-boiler until the texture is smooth. Dip the tines of a fork into the melted chocolate and use the tines to drizzle the white chocolate over the tops of the apples.
Repeat the same melting and drizzling process with the semi-sweet chocolate.
Decorate the apples with the almonds and the red-hot cinnamon candy by gently pushing them into the caramel-coated apples.
