Apple pie is an American tradition, but a little drizzle of caramel gives it a sweeter, more modern twist. There are many versions of caramel apple pie, ranging from simple and quick to complicated and intricate. Make your version easy by using pre-made pie crust for the bottom and sundae caramel sauce instead of melting all of your own caramel. You can accent it with a gourmet twist by adding a homemade crumble to top the pie instead of just regular pie crust.
Mix together the brown sugar, flour and rolled oats. Add the butter chopped up to create a coarse crumbly mixture. Set aside.
Heat oven to 425 degrees. Combine the apples, sugar, flour and salt in a bowl, tossing lightly to coat the apples.
Layer the mixture into the pre-made pie crust.
Sprinkle the crumb mixture on top of the apple filling.
Bake for around 40 minutes. Remove pie from oven and immediately drizzle the caramel topping over the top and sprinkle the pecans evenly . Add more or less caramel, depending on your tastes.
