How to Adjust the Height on a Scott's Deluxe Reel Mower

The Scott's Deluxe reel mower is a lightweight version of their Classic reel mower. The Scott's Deluxe has an 18-inch cutting span, much like a standard walk-behind mower. The reel mower height is adjustable. The reel mower has three different cutting heights to accommodate cutting heights of a 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches tall.

Step 1

Place the Scott's Deluxe reel mower on a flat surface, like your garage floor or driveway. Find the two small notches between the center hubcap panel and the wheel. Place a flat-head screwdriver into one of the notches and pry the center hubcap panel off the wheel. Place the tip of the flat-head screwdriver under the flange of the c-clip between the wheel and end of the axle. Pry the c-clip away from the wheel, and pull the wheel off the axle.

Step 2

Place an adjustable wrench over the securing nut of the axle pin on the back of the dust cover. The dust cover is the round piece that wheel fits beside with a gear toward the right side of the cover. The axle pin looks similar to a bolt. The nut is between the dust cover and the reel mower frame. Loosen the center axle pin with a socket wrench until you can rotate the dust cover.

Step 3

Locate the three adjustment holes on the left side of the dust cover plate. There is a bolt on the frame of the mower that protrudes through one of the holes. Pull the dust cover plate away from the adjustment bolt, and rotate the plate to a different hole. Place the plate back against the mower frame with the adjustment bolt protruding through one of the adjustment holes. Remember which hole you move the dust cover plate to, because you need to adjust the opposite wheel to the same hole.

Step 4

Tighten the center axle pin with the socket wrench. Place the wheel over the dust cover with the axle pin going through the center of the wheel rim. Position the c-clip over the top of the axle pin. Open the jaws of a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the top of the c-clip and bottom of the axle pin. Squeeze the plier handles to snap the c-clip over the axle pin.

Step 5

Place the hubcap panel over the center of the wheel and press it into place. Repeat the process for the opposite wheel.
