Grass cloth is a natural form of wallpaper. It is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wallpaper due to its natural origin. It is generally made from a variety of Asian grasses and fibers. Grass cloth will add texture and beauty to walls in both a business or home setting. Applying grass cloth is fairly straightforward and not too different than applying the more traditional wallpaper. Heavy-duty wallcovering adhesive works best to hang grass cloth because of its bulk and heavy weight.
Prime the wall by cleaning it thoroughly and then applying a wallpaper primer. This will help the wallpaper paste adhere better.
Cut your strips of grass cloth using a #12 razor blade to fit the area you wish to cover. Avoid using small strips as much as possible.
Apply a thin layer of heavy-duty wallpaper paste using a brush or roller to the section of wall you wish to start with. Allow the past to become slightly tacky.
Gently moisten the back of the grass cloth with a damp sponge. Be careful not to get it too wet, as that may cause staining.
Hang your grass cloth on the wall by working from the top down. Press the strips on and smooth out by hand. Make sure the strip remains straight and there are not any wrinkles or air pockets.
