How to Make Weed Killer From Household Ingredients

Weeds are a problem for almost every homeowner at one time or another. They can be pulled, but this method of removal is very time consuming. It is also not practical for areas that need a large amount of weeding. Sprays are the best approach, but weed killers sold in garden centers often are filled with harsh chemicals. Fortunately, you can make your own effective weed killer spray at home.

Step 1

Pour 1 qt. of water in a pot, and bring it to a boil.

Step 2

Add the salt, and stir until it is completely dissolved. Salt will kill any type of vegetation it comes in to contact with.

Step 3

Pour in the 20 percent vinegar and stir again. If you cannot find a vinegar that is 20 percent (household vinegars range from 3 to 5 percent), you can purchase it online.

Step 4

Transfer the homemade weed killer to a watering can, and immediately pour over your weeds. Boiling water alone has the power to kill weeds, so it is best to go ahead and apply the weed killer without giving it time to cool off.

Tips and Warnings

  • Do not allow your homemade weed killer to touch any of your other plants. It will kill them.
