How to Hang Ceramic Planters

Hanging planters can bring color and elegance to your home's entryway or patio. Hanging planters allow you to display plants in areas that may not have enough ground space. Hanging ceramic planters can be used instead of plastic planters if you want your planting display to look a little more formal. To hang ceramic planters you need to ensure the area has ceiling joists. Ceramic planters filled with soil can become fairly heavy.

Step 1

Locate a ceiling joist to hang your ceramic planter. Drill a hole in the joist that is slightly smaller than the hanging hook.

Step 2

Screw the hanging hook clockwise into the joist and tighten with pliers.

Step 3

Look at your ceramic planter. You will notice it has a hanging hook. Hang this hook from the hook you placed in the ceiling.

Step 4

Repeat the above steps for each additional planter you wish to hang.

Tips and Warnings

  • Wear safety glasses when drilling holes into the ceiling joist. Wood shavings and particles could get into your eye if you do not wear safety glasses.
