Nitrogen fertilizer is an essential part of a healthy yard. All plants, especially lawns, need some amount of nitrogen. Besides being an important nutrient, it improves the overall look of the plant and deepens the green color. Make your own nitrogen with compost, which will also add many more nutrients from which your plants will benefit.
Pour about 1 gallon of compost into a five gallon bucket. Compost is full of many nutrients that will benefit plants, one of which is a high nitrogen content.
Pour almost 4 gallons of water into the bucket. Leave a few inches of space at the top of the bucket. If you have a high chlorine level in your tap water, consider using distilled water.
Stir the compost to mix it together. Stir the mixture every day to add air. Do this for a full week.
Set up another bucket with a mesh strainer over the opening. Stir the mix once more and then pour it into the strainer to remove clumps and large debris.
Pour the tea over plants using a watering can.
