A coco mat provides gardeners with an easy-to-use base for planting flowers and herbs, as well as a decorative basket liner. Made of coconut fiber, a coco mat allows you to beautifully landscape a new flowerbed or start a windowsill planter. From sun-loving annuals to luscious indoor blossoms, planting flowers on a coco mat provides you with an easy way to enjoy a floral atmosphere.
Fill the bottom of the flower planter box with a layer of soil. Around 3 cups of soil is usually enough. Use more to sustain deeper roots for your flowers.
Layer the soil with the coco mat. Make sure the mat is cut down to fit the dimensions of the planter box.
Scatter a layer of flower seeds over the enter surface of the coco mat. Ideal flowers include wildflower mixes and sun-loving annuals, such as asters and daisies. Coco mats are porous so the seeds don't need covering.
Administer about 1/2 gallon of water evenly over the surface of the freshly sown coco mat.
Place the planter box on a sunny windowsill or outside on your patio.
