A deer is a mammal that relies on plants for its meals. Deer prefer to get these plants in fields and forests, but they will venture out if the food becomes scarce. If a deer finds that you have a vegetable or flower garden, it will keep returning to eat from your garden. This will subsequently destroy your vegetables and flowers. Creating a deer-proof garden will help you protect your vegetation.
Create your own deer repellent. Place three eggs, 3 tbsp. hot sauce, 3 tbsp. minced garlic and 8 oz. water in a blender. Blend the ingredients together on high, and then pour them in a spray bottle. Spray the plants and vegetables in your garden once every other week to keep the deer away.
Use deer-resistant plants throughout your garden to keep deer from wanting to munch on your plants and vegetables. Asters, dahlias, Dutch irises and evening primroses are examples of plants that are considered to be deer resistant.
Place some bars of deodorant soap in some nylon stockings. Tie the stockings from stakes surrounding your garden. The deer will smell the soap instead of the plants and stay away from your garden.
Fence in your garden. This is the most reliable way to protect your garden against deer. Although a large fence may be a bit unsightly, an 8 ft. fence is necessary as deer can jump a smaller size fence.
