Do not exclude your driveway from your overall landscape design. Landscaping tends to be minimal around driveways. Driveway landscaping can include privacy plantings, and it does not have to be boring. Landscaping your driveway adds curb appeal to your home.
Border the driveway with shrubs, flowers, a small wall or a small fence. Driveways typically lack landscaping, yet offer limitless possibilities for creating beautiful garden areas. You can plant flowers in a color that matches the exterior of your home or add a small stone wall to border your driveway. Installing a small wire fence around the driveway does not take long, and provides you with a place to hang garden decorations. Consider the overall atmosphere of your landscaping when deciding on the driveway border, and be sure it fits in.
Widen the Area
Widen your driveway with pavers. Purchase pavers in different colors, and use them on each side of the driveway. You do not need to dig deep to install pavers; a small hole is sufficient to lay each paver in. Dig a seperate hole for every paver. This ensures the pavers will not move under the weight of a vehicle. Choose pavers of the same size or different sizes--each will create a different look. Let your imagination guide you as you determine the design of the pavers.
Decorate the edges of your driveway with flowers or greenery, either as a border or in small garden beds. Choose flowers in contrasting colors--for example, blue and orange create a dramatic landscaping effect. If you wish for a more subtle look, plant lighter colored flowers or shrubs. Plant the flowers directly in the ground or incorporate decorative containers along the driveway.
Install solar lights around your driveway. This adds decorative appeal to the landscaping. Many solar lights are reasonably priced and can be purchased at a local department store or hardware store. Solar lights do not require any special tools for installation--simply stick them in the ground. They come in a variety of sizes, designs and colors. As dusk approaches, your driveway will be illuminated. Guests can park easily in a driveway bordered by solar lights.
