Amaryllis Grow Kit Instructions

Amaryllis grow kits are a favored gift or conversation piece during the fall and holiday season. Kits are sold for Christmas and Easter decorating or gift giving. The easy-to-use kit contains a healthy bulb, soil packet and a deep plant pot with drainage holes. The complete kit can be quickly used to plant the bulb. The bulb will begin to grow within two weeks. The amaryllis grow kit instructions are simple to follow. In several weeks a 2- to 3-foot-tall stalk will produce buds and large, showy blossoms.

Step 1

Spread a piece of newspaper on to your work surface. Place the plant pot on to the paper.

Step 2

Fill the pot with several inches of the soil included in the kit.

Step 3

Place the amaryllis bulb, pointed tip up, in the center of the soil.

Step 4

Cover the amaryllis bulb with soil, leaving the top one-third of the bulb exposed. Firmly pat down the soil. Water the soil without getting moisture on the bulb itself. Place the pot in a sunny location away from cold drafts.

Tips and Warnings

  • Turn the pot every few days to keep the amaryllis stalk straight. The stalk grows toward the source of sunlight.
