How to Deter Squirrels From Flower Boxes

Squirrels are small rodents with long bushy tails that make them highly recognizable. Squirrels naturally hunt for their food, and they may even look to your flower boxes for a meal. Though this can be frustrating, there is something you can do about it. You can deter them with a homemade squirrel repellent.

Step 1

Pour the hot sauce into the bucket and add the water.

Step 2

Mix the two ingredients together. Add the dish detergent and mix again.

Step 3

Fill a spray bottle with the homemade squirrel repellent.

Step 4

Spray the repellent on the flowers in your flower box, and on the flower box itself. This will deter the squirrels from going near the flowers and their box.

Step 5

Repeat once every other week during the growing season.

Tips and Warnings

  • Do not use moth balls as a deterrent. They are toxic to humans and pets.
