How to Light an Herb Garden

An herb garden provides you with more than edible plants and fragrant flora. It also provides your environment with attractive ornamental foliage and blossoms to be enjoyed by all. Adding light to your herb garden illuminates your plants and allows for them to be appreciated be day or night. An easy process that requires very little time, lighting an herb garden creates ambiance and gives you something to look at on a relaxing summer night.

Step 1

Select solar-powered garden lanterns from a local gardening supply merchant or online store. They come in a variety of colors, textures, materials, shapes and sizes and complement your herb garden at night to showcase the attractive foliage.

Step 2

Measure the borders of your herb garden. This allows you to determine how many lanterns your garden needs. Medium-sized garden lanterns illuminate an herb garden beautifully when spaced 2 feet apart.

Step 3

Use a hand trowel or other handheld garden tool to clear away weeds and excess debris from the borders of your herb garden.

Step 4

Place each garden lantern directly on the soil of the cleared off garden borders. Space them at least 2 feet apart.

Step 5

Clear weeds and overgrowth of herb plants from the garden lanterns periodically. Solar-powered garden lanterns have no switches, relying entirely on sunlight to power the lights within them. No other maintenance is required.
