How to Make Liquid Fertilizer

Overview

Fertilizers come in two forms, granular or liquid. Liquid fertilizers are easy to administer to large areas, such as a lawn. They also can be made in smaller portions for use in flower pots. A garden sprayer allows you to cover a large area, while a watering can will apply the fertilizer to smaller areas. If you make liquid fertilizer at home, you can be confident it has no unwanted chemicals in it.

Step 1

Put the beer, cola, mouthwash, ammonia and soap in a small bucket. It doesn't matter what order you add the ingredients.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients together with a wooden spoon to form the liquid fertilizer.

Step 3

Transfer the liquid fertilizer to a watering can.

Step 4

Pour the liquid fertilizer into flower pots or throughout the garden. This recipe will cover an area of 400 square feet.

Step 5

Repeat once per month during the spring and summer months.

Tips and Warnings

  • Wear a mask when you handle ammonia, which produces fumes.
