How to Make Weed Killer at Home

Weeds sprout up and rob your grass and plants of essential nutrients, and make your yard look less than appealing. But there is a way to kill those weeds using products in your pantry. Not only will this save you from having to use chemicals, it will also save you time from having to travel to the store.

Step 1

Pour vinegar into a pot and bring it to a boil. As soon as the vinegar begins to boil, turn the heat off and remove the pot from the burner.

Step 2

Add salt and make sure you stir until dissolved.

Step 3

Spoon in the dish soap and mix the ingredients again.

Step 4

Being careful, since the mixture will still be very hot, place the homemade weed killer in a watering can.

Step 5

Pour the homemade weed killer over the weeds in your lawn. The water temperature alone has the ability to kill the weeds. The vinegar will kill the leaves of the weeds, while the salt works to destroy the roots under the soil. The dish soap is necessary for the solution to stick to the weeds.

Step 6

Repeat one week later for remaining weeds.

Tips and Warnings

  • The homemade weed killer should only be used on weeds, as getting the solution on nearby plants could kill them too.
