The heart of a coconut palm tree is a delicacy around the world since extracting the heart kills the tree. In most cases, according to Market Manila, the heart of palm is only removed after the tree is no longer useful for growing coconuts or it is damaged by a storm. The heart of a coconut palm is taken from the upper part of the coconut tree, near the leaves, and the trunk is shaved away to get to the rich center, which can weigh up to 12 kilograms.
Cut up the heart of coconut palm into equal size pieces, about 1 inch-by-2 to 3 inches.
Fill a pot halfway full of water, and bring the water to a boil. Add ½ tablespoon of salt to the pot of water.
Place the coconut palm hearts into the pot. Allow them to boil for 10 to 15 minutes until they are tender.
Drain the water from the pot, and place the coconut palm hearts in a bowl and mix them with your intended dish.
