Home Remedy for Weed Control

Weed in the garden are an unavoidable element of do-it-yourself food. There are dozens of products on the market that kill weeds effectively but may contain poisonous materials such as ammonium sulfamate, which causes ammonium poisoning; borax, which is toxic; and PCP, which is easily absorbed by skin and lungs and can be deadly. There are several home remedies you can use to kill weeds in the garden. All you need is a spray bottle and some products from the kitchen.

Step 1

Mix about 4 oz. lemon juice with 1 qt. white or cider vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture directly onto the weeds, making sure you don't hit your other plants. Apply on a day when wind is calm. Reapply after a rain.

Step 2

As an alternative to the white vinegar method, mix 1 part bleach and 10 parts water in a spray bottle . Spray this solution directly onto the plant. Wear gloves and safety glasses when applying this solution to the plants, as the mixture can be harmful if you make contact with it.

Step 3

Pull out weeds that have died, using work gloves. Re-spray any stubborn weeds that haven't been killed off the first time around.
