Andrographis is a medicinal herb native to the East Indies. It is used the world over to treat everything from herpes to stomach upset. And in the early 20th century, andrographis gained worldwide recognition when it was used to end a flu epidemic in India. However, in the United States, the herb is primarily used as alternative medicine, to reduce the symptoms of colds and respiratory infections (always consult a doctor before taking it, however). Andrographis is quite easy to prepare for consumption and is most commonly consumed as a tea infusion and sipped slowly on an empty stomach before a meal.
Place 1 teaspoon of dried andrographis in a tea infuser. If you are using fresh andrographis, use 10 grams. As you become accustomed to andrographis, you can slowly increase your dosage--up to 6 grams daily or two to three mature leaves.
Place the infuser in a tea cup and cover it with 1 cup of boiling water.
Leave the tea to steep for 10 minutes, then drink.
