The Black and Decker Grass Hog Trimmer is a grass trimmer that uses nylon line to trim grass and weeds. Over time, as the nylon line in a Grass Hog wears away, replace it by pulling more line from the spool located in the head of the Grass Hog. When the line in the head of the trimmer runs out, fill the spool in the trimmer head with new nylon line.
Remove the battery from your Grass Hog trimmer or unplug the cord to prevent accidentally shocking yourself while you work on the trimmer.
Lay your Grass Hog trimmer on the ground so that the head is pointed upward.
Grasp the hub cover firmly with one hand, and squeeze the tabs on the side of the cover to loosen it. Pull the cover upward to remove it from the head of your trimmer.
Look into the hub. Your spool of nylon line is nestled inside the hub. The actual nylon line emerges from a hole in the side of the hub.
Pull the spool out of the hub, and pull the line out of the hole in the side of the hub. Unwind what is left of the old line on the spool and discard it.
Cut 30 feet of new nylon line for your Grass Hog trimmer. Insert the end of the line into the tab in the spool. Wind the line onto the spool in the direction indicated by the arrows printed on the spool.
Thread the loose end of line through the hole in the side of the hub. Hold it firmly in place with your free hand, and slip the spool back into the hub with your other hand.
Replace the hub cover by pressing it over the hub until the tabs snap into place. Reconnect the power, and turn your trimmer on. In a few seconds the trimmer will adjust the line to the proper size.
